Clean Hair Ponytails for Spring 2013

If I could buy a gift for Gina B. it would be this fabulous surfboard. Back in the day I did some surfing in some great spots- @ Blacks (great left break) and at Sunset cliffs (that’s a trek down a cliff, a jump and paddle out). Anyway I no longer surf but she does and I came across this and thought of her. In the process of my find I fell in love with Etro’s S/S 2013 collection. The detail on this one pair of pants looked like butterfly wings in the wind. Just a spectacular show filled with beautiful prints and wearable shapes. This hair was a big Yes Yes for me as well. It reminds me of the PA for Missoni's Designer Preview we did.

I will be rocking the supper long, blunt cut ponytail this spring.  I just love the clean look of it and the slouchy black bow.
Lucky for me I've got Karen Angel working on the faux ponytail after Christmas. Funny thing the 5 year old ask if her Nona could make one for her too. How cute right! When I get the pony I’ll post a How To on Faux Pony Tails.

Well In case you’re not familiar with Karen’s work, she is a master hairdresser. She lends her talents to Tigi Talent Team, doing shows for NYC fashion week, and a variety of other shows throughout the country. I LOVE that women’s work.
If you get the chance to get an appointment with her you will see what I mean. She is a true talent and the last of a dying breed of master hairdresser such as the likes of Vidal Sassoon, Leo Passage, and Guy Muscolo of Toni & Guy/Tigi.

How to: Get the 60'sVibe Make up

I obviously love vintage 60's  Daliah Lavi looks in The Silencer or Casino Royale, this is one of my all time favorite. So this is a How to for the Smokey eye effect my hip grandma wore in the 60’s with her suede bells and fringe vest. Pale lipped, strong creamy contrast and lashes are the order of day.

Face
Start recreating this look by prepping up your skin. Wash it well and put on some makeup primer to keep your skin healthy and make your makeup last longer.
Next, apply foundation and if needed, concealer. This look is very matte so we’d suggest using a foundation with a matte finish. I loved the Chanel Perfection lumiere. If you don’t have one available you can create that matte finish by setting your foundation with powder. How ever, depending on your age this can be aging. The powder settles in the creases. Trust me I know.

Brows
The eyebrows for this look are arched well but they’re not exactly well defined, this updates the retro look. You can achieve by taking some eye shadow and applying that to your brows with a brush. Tigi cosmetics make a great brow definers and its moisture proof. Use very light short strokes moving sideways to create that slightly fuzzy effect.
Eyes
Now it’s time to work on your lids and for this you will need one  matte eye shadow in black and the other one in black precision pen  is my choice, plus a good blending brush. Tigi and Mac brushes both are excellent choices. To get the very dramatic eyes this look features, start by taking the Precision pen eye liner and applying it quarter in at lash line to the outer corner. Next take the black eye shadow and apply it to the lowest part of your eye lid, taking up about 1/3 of your lids for blend a softening effect. You will see the slight difference between the two types of eye shadows.
Next, take your blending brush and start blending the line of the black eye shadow. This will create the gradation of hue. Line the under eye lid and blend for softness.
For the next step, you will need Vanilla high density shadow. Take a brush and create a line just below your lower lash line in the corner then over the lid, then from the black blended line up to the brows.

Lashes
Curl your upper eye lashes and apply mascara to define them.
Cut the lash to fit lid and apply one set on the top extending out a bit and another on the lower lid making a slight triangle connection with the top lashes. This will give you a wider looking eye.
Contour
To make your features appear stronger, take a dark shade contour your cheeks by applying it right above your jaw line. Make sure you keep the apples of your cheeks free of any colour because the main focuses of this look are the eyes and lips.

Lips
If you want a soft version of this look, you can wear it with a lighter shade of matte lipstick with a hint of gloss in the center. It gives you a kissable pout look without looking to sticky.

How to : Haute Holiday Hairstyle

A glittery accessory adds whimsical romance to just about any hairstyle;
I of course forgot to wear one in this photo.

 Want to give it a whirl? Here’s a how-to

 1.  I applied Tigi's Session Series Styling Cream on damp- almost dry hair. Then gentle dried it into the hair using my fingers so as to retain body in my hair. Curl the hair all in one direction with a 1-inch Marcel iron, and pin with single prong clips and let it cool.

2. Comb the hair out completely with a good quality brush. I used a Mason Person brush, you can purchase at Nordstroms, but Denman works well and is gentle on the hair. The Denman on this link site is so cute I'm going to get myself one.

3. Using a styling comb and thin metal clips, depress the comb into the hair to create finger waves around the   face. Use the clips to enhance the ridges in the waves before spraying

4. To pin it back just loosely gather the hair and pin to secure. Try not to flat and mat it down, think fluffy.

5. Add in sparkly clips or broaches on one side of the head, above and behind the ear. Le Bel Age has some great sparkles and Forever 21

Men's Dept: Gifts for your Honey

Gifts for your Honey
So here are my thoughts on gifts for the honey. The hubby has the crop- groomed David Beckham style and is working the bearded look as of late, so the following are my top gift picks.

1.    Tigi’sB for men Pure Texture for the controlled separation he likes. He already uses the Shampoo and Conditioner. I love the smell.

2.    Dr.Harris Arlington after shave. This has a light smell of citrus and earth, it won’t interfere with the Ted Baker cologne we got him. On line at CO Bigelow.

3.    Burroughsbeard oil- we still need to condition the skin and make the beard soft so we can kiss them. This is the perfect essential oil base product and it’s made in the USA

1.    The Newman Tartan Bow Tie- He’s wearing this at our Scottish Christmas Eve Party. Love it!

2.      Rag andBone Shot glasses and flask- Target and Neimen’s have teamed up for and made a $1million donation to the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The list of collaborating designers is impressive. Most of the items are well priced- take a peak I’m sure you will find something.

3.    Makr.com I Phone 5/Card sleeve has to be my top pick. If I didn’t have a Samsung I’d buy one! This is hand sewn and has rolled edges, sound comfy.

So this rounds out my list, hope some of these site prove fruitful for you.

Happy Thanksgiving

So I made it to L.A. The T-Day prep has started. The smells are fantastic, makes me want to eat now. The air is filled with roasted garlic, bacon, butter, sage, warm baked bread, sweet savory pies- need I say more. My sister in-law has a two page spread sheet on what needs to be done. She’s a project manager at her job, this skill obviously spills into the precisely time list. 7am turkey out and rubbed, 7:15 coffee and breakfast, 7:45 get dressed, start turkey (325d) etc, etc.
The Stooges video sums up how my Thanksgiving dinner would have been like after a few Mcallan 18s -a family favorite.
Well today we are going ice skating then out on what I like to refer to as the hunt (really just a long walk with the whole family and pack of dogs)

My Drug of choice: Caviar

Caviar is my drug of choice: Iris Apfel

This woman is my hero of the month. I adore her sense of style and humor. She has been a spoke person for MAC (shown above), she has her own book out, HSN carries her Jewelry "Rara Avis" which means rare bird in Latin. I love how she owns her mantras. I found myself watching these video's over and over, each time laughing at new found "Iris Blips of wisdom".
The video from L'oreal Hairspray Confessions is so cute. What energy for a 91year old. This is how I picture Karen Angel at that age, I can only hope. Make the jump at Caviar for an additional video. I hope you enjoy them as I have.

At the office : Relax into my week with David Beckham

I had a late start today and I’m still in a haze of packing up the family for the Thanksgiving Sojourn. I of course still have to work.

So here is my Relax into my Workweek Mantra
Here’s a little morning video of Mr. Beckham to put a little pep in my step.
via youtube

Still a morning must, a good strong coffee and possible a cigarette, (even though I gave it up). Then off to the closet for and office outfit. So much to do, the L’Oreal Holiday gift bags are in at Panache and we are pulling dĂ©cor for the salon. That in itself is an undertaking.

Mad for It: Reds

images tigi catwalk, tigi cometics, mac cosmetics, google
I occasional wear red lip stick. I absolutely love shades of vermilion, scarlet and crimson. Each has its own difference of hue. The color red to me doesn’t mean stop, it says elegance, classic and festive, and especially at this time of year. Having the right shade of red can transform your look. I’m  sure some of you have tried red in the past and have said it’s not for me. Note: over the years formulas have expanded greatly. The shade possibilities are endless.

Did you know-

Red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing and it's also associated as the color of love. Imagine wearing this on your lips--what signals are you sending? Bold is defined as “willing to break the rules”, so why not make a bold statement without saying a word.

image: Emma Maclaren by Tony Kim (The Shadow In Red - Sure Korea December 2011)

It's a little diva, but you can handle that--it's those around you that might need a handbook on the new you
When Asked “why red”

Some explained away it's a cause and effect, while other simply said “wearing red finally allowed them to be the sexy woman they always knew existed” and right now, instead of questioning it or letting the skeptic in, you come out and play, why not experiment for yourself and let red take over? What do you have to loose?

Holiday How-to: Hair
images edited by panache beauty

Hair how-to: We see thousands of them, everywhere. Well a while ago I found this one on Martha Stewert Living. The Photo's are what sold me on the concept, absolutely breathtaking. I wasn’t a How to’er, until now. So you can look forward to many more in the future and possible some from the Panache and Co. Salon family

Once I have my hair done for my holiday party, I think I will schedule

Essie is a great polish. It’s very long lasting. Then it’s off for some holiday cheer. I just love, love, love this time of year don’t you?

So let me know what your holiday hair and make up plans are?

Would You Wear A Turban ?

images via goggle image

Would you wear a turban? My grandmother did and she looked very chic. The models are from the Mark Jacobs’ show in spring of 2012 and the other the Anna Sui spring. I must admit, I just love accessories, infact my guest room has become a mini Le Bel Age store, anywho- so the turban is a great excuse for shopping. There is a more practical side to the turban or head wrap, if you’re having a très horrible hair day it will cover it up and keep your head warm this winter.

images via goggle image

There are a number of beautiful and famous women who have worn turbans and looked great. Classic- Timeless Chic

I know I will attempt a holiday turban this year. These are a few of the looks I’ve selected and Karen Angel is one of the best turban wrappers I know.

My choice for all time chicest turban wearing women
“Dianna Vreeland” I can’t wait to see the movie.

Who’s your favorite turban wearer and would you wear one?

Eco Chic: Monday Morning Mantra

Well I’m not sure if weekends are so relaxing. It seems there’s more to do every weekend. So this week I’ve decided to take a new approach- New Monday Mantra (Relax into my week)

First: I will have a healthy breakfast, then a private sunrise yoga lesson with Kelly Knorr of Panache and Co. Salon. I bet you didn’t know she teaches yoga. She is always trying to get me to have healthy choices in my life- love her for that.

Second: it’s off to the Salon for an Awakening Treatment by TIGI Reborn. The scalp massage and hot towel treatment alone should put me in a state of Zen.  It’s sounding great so far, right?  Then it’s one of Panache’s great  *$30.00 blow outs. It’s much more civilized to have one’s hair blown out by professionals; lasting results, you known.
*Blowouts @ $30.00 Junior Stylist only

Third - but not last, my favorite tea, Casablanca by “Mariage Freres. I buy mine on-line and sometimes from Extraordinary Deserts. Next, I  would love a steak salad from “Urban Plates”, oh’ medium rare please. I wonder if Kelly would consider the salad healthy.
Well all this New Monday Mantra should help me on my way to a fantastic work week. What do you do to Relax into your work week-write me and let me know.
